WOMEN WE KNOW #29 - Philippa Ilincic

Philipa Ilincic, a water loving mother and a traveling expat moved to Singapore in 2013 from the UK with her family. Ever since her kids became more independent, she started to train as a mentor for Soul Kids - An award winning life-skills program that provides children with the complete skills needed to create a happy life. She believes that to be happy and successful in life, we need to live in the moment as it has and will pass by in a blink.

Who and what do you think of when you hear “Fearlessly Female”?

When I hear “Fearlessly Female”  I think of a grounded, self-assured, self-confident, authentic, successful and happy female.

What keeps you going when things get tough?

When things get tough, I count my blessings and realise how great my life is.  I first think and look to my family and then close friends, I take a few moments to scan through what is good, positive and strong within and around me and how lucky I am to be healthy.  Alternatively a Gin and tonic made by my husband works!!

What is the one life lesson you learned that can’t be taught in school?

The one life lesson, that I have learned that cannot be taught in school is - be true to yourself and who you are and not to get pulled down by keeping negative company.  I have recently reinvested in myself and with the help of an amazing mentor, the founder of Soul Kids, I realise that to be happy and successful in life, I need to live life in the moment, visit the past and dream of the future briefly, but spend most of my time enjoying the here and now, as it has and will pass by in a breath.

What is your definition of success?

Someone who invests in themselves in order to become challenged, driven and happy.

If you weren’t working in the job you are in now, what would you be doing instead?

I haven’t been working in a job for a long time.  My working world was a lifetime ago, due to being a trailing, traveling expat. I lived a high life of marketing luxury goods, balancing strategic marketing daily business, along with the fun of high profile celebrity endorsement and promotional event entertainment planning; for some exceptional and still well loved brands.  I am far too old for all of that and now!! However my children have less demands on my time, so I can focus on a new vocation.  I am delighted to have trained and become part of an amazing, award winning Organization - Soul Kids - who teach life skills to children, ..... I have just become a Mentor and Coach . Even the training was an amazing, rewarding and life changing experience.

I look forward to helping the children of the future, unlock and find their true potential and become the very best that they can be. I hope to be able to help many children overcome their individual challenges, to help them realise how special an individual they are and work on fulfilling their dreams, by being able to open up to opportunities, which will lead to successes, and happiness.

What is your ideal holiday?

My ideal holiday is always influenced by water, I love lakes and the sea.  The whiter the sand, the clearer the water, the more beautiful the scenery, the happier I am.  A water view is forever changing, reinventing itself, recapturing your attention and I find it therapeutic and relaxing.  Luckily water also means lots of activities for the rest of the family too - boating, swimming, wake boarding and fishing!   We are just back from summer which was a great holiday, a lot of time spent messing around on boats on the water, firstly in the UK - Lake Windermere to visit family, then to our pad in Lake Como - Italy and then onto the beautiful Maldives, Constance Halaveli, with its crystal clear water.  We as a family also have a firm favourite and love The Robinson Crusoe Nikoi island, much closer to home!

What or who are your style influences?

I just love Italian clothes, the style, the fit, the cut, the cloth and especially the silks.  You can always find your colour choice too!  I don’t feel the need to follow any one style, I go with what I like and how it makes me feel, relaxed and comfortable, smart and elegant, fun, bright and playful.

What three values are most important to you?

Patience with myself, my family and those around me, so as not to judge people, places and events poorly, but to reflect and respond respectfully, honestly and with care.

Self belief - My desire is to be able to help others - To do this you need to fully understand and believe in yourself first.  With the help of my training and mentor, I now have this.  Which drives confidence, it inspires and challenges me with new ideas on how to help people and will hopefully really make a difference.

Commitment - A self determination, to energise and motivate myself, to my full potential in helping children - through Soul Kids and also charity, especially the wonderful ARC Children's Organisation, whilst I am here in Singapore.
